In the world of ecommerce, it is crucial for businesses to have the ability to accept different types of payments. Customers who shop online will most likely want to pay with one of three methods: a credit card, debit card, or electronic check. One way to accept these types of payments is with a merchant account. But sometimes, a merchant account is not the best choice. Sometimes, business owners choose third party credit card processors to handle the acceptance process for them. Let's take a look at some of these companies and how they work.
The largest and most popular of the third party companies is PayPal. Millions of business owners and consumers use PayPal to send and accept credit cards, debit cards, and e-checks. Each time funds are accepted, a small transaction fee is charged. This is often much more affordable than many of the merchant accounts out there, who charge set up fees and other related charges. Another benefit to using a company like PayPal is the variety of free services that are available. One is the shopping cart, which can be easily implemented on any site by inserting a small amount of HTML code.
There are other third party processors out there besides PayPal. However, they're just not as renowned as PayPal, and probably never will be. PayPal is the number one third party processing company in the world, and will most likely continue to be for a long time. One alternative for some businesses, however, is ClickBank. If you are an online entrepreneur who is selling an informational product like an ebook or even software, you may want to look into using ClickBank. ClickBank will advertise your product, allow you to recruit affiliates, and handle all the payments for you. This is in exchange for a one-time fee and a small transaction fee for each transaction.
Choosing between third party credit card processors isn't a difficult task. If you cannot get a merchant account or do not want one, try using PayPal. If you are selling an ebook, software or other product that is delivered electronically, try ClickBank. You're likely to find exactly what you need for your business offered from one of these great companies.
